Save Darien’s Wetlands

Save Darien’s Wetlands was founded in 2001 by the late Lee Fingar: ".. to promote the importance of the inland wetlands in an urban environment. More specifically... to encourage Darien's citizens to understand how the wetlands enhance an environment that is being stressed by over development."

2007 was marked by unprecedented flooding in Darien. On March 2nd it was raining when many people began to get ready for work and school. By mid morning it became evident that the water wasn't going anywhere-- it was still raining and gutters, drains, and Darien's brooks were overflowing and flooding homes. About a month later, before some families had even finished the repairs from the first flood, Darien was hit with a Nor 'easter on April 15th. The town didn't get a rest, a small shower (about an inch and a half of rain) on April 27th again caused flooding, mostly on Stony Brook. As 2007 marched on and flood repairs were completed, many residents breathed a collective sigh of relief only to be hit by several feet of water in a surprise flooding event on October 11th.
