Flooding Hits Darien, CT
2007 was a disastrous year for the urban and wetland areas in Darien, CT. The first storm in March left flooded residents and businesses asking "What happened?" and "What can be done?" By the time the second storm hit (the April Nor 'easter) many flood victims had met and learned to their surprise that flooding and drainage had not been on the town's agenda for years and that previous solutions recommended by engineer studies had failed to be implemented. When hit by flooding again in October.. enough is enough.. immediate action was demanded.

What is the Result of Rampant Flooding?
Erosion - Soil washes away, you may lose many square feet of your valuable property. And it gets worse.. erosion cuts new paths for the water to travel, bringing more water to areas that perhaps had not seen water before.
Trees and Woodlands Lost - Soil holds roots in place, when erosion washes soil away, roots are exposed and trees fall. Many trees can not live in excessive water. Old growth trees can be lost.
Homes Damaged - FEMA reports that the average cost for repairs of flood damage is about $40,000... per home... per incident. What is lost? Anything sitting in the path of water: heating systems, ac units, electrical wiring, built-in cabinets, furniture, mementos, rugs, walls, toys, computers and other electrical appliances.
Cars Damaged - If you were slower than the flood waters your vehicle(s) may have succumbed to flooding.
